The National Recovery and Resilience Plan , presented to the Council of Ministers on 12 January, provides that "the strengthening of the existing railway network and the construction of new High Speed and High Speed / High Capacity lines along the main southern routes constitute an objective primary for Italy, both to relaunch investments and public spending in the infrastructure and transport sector, and with a view to achieving the European objectives of ecological reconversion and decarbonisation ”.
In essence, this is the replica of the "# italiaveloce " Plan in which "the speeding up of the Rome-Naples-Salerno-Reggio Calabria relationship with progressive upgrading of the connection lines with Basilicata (Battipaglia-Potenza-Metaponto- Taranto) and Calabria ".
One might think that the government has finally realized the need to offer southern citizens the possibility of having a quick connection with central – northern Italy. But no. And we explain why.
The so-called Avac (High Speed / High Capacity) is that railway infrastructure, which today can be traveled at a high speed (around 300 km / h), present between Milan and Salerno. Very different is the High Speed Network (AVR), that is the infrastructure which, through speeding interventions, can reach a maximum speed of 200 km / h, a network in which traditional services can also travel.
The deception discovered: in the annex to the DEF 2020 "#italiaveloce", the interventions planned on the Salerno-Reggio Calabria route are characterized by the High Speed Network (AVR) and not by the High Speed / High Capacity, as required by the funding made available for planning with the Relaunch Decree for 40 million euros. So from Salerno to Reggio it will be possible to see, hopefully, the speeding up of the line which, I remember, will be mixed with traditional railway services.
Not only Calabria but the whole south will once again be cut off from that ancient project designed by the European Commission which intended to connect the countries of the Union with the Ten-T network.
