Tech breakthrough for Intesa Sanpaolo.

The bank headed by Carlo Messina launches the new Governance Area dedicated to Innovation and Information Technology.

In line with the main objectives of the 2022-25 Business Plan, the new organizational structure aims to "enhance and further strengthen the relationship with the business, making the development of technological solutions even more effective, flexible and integrated, the adoption of new technologies such as cloud and AI and to be more attractive in the world of work” explains a note from the company.

Leading the new area is Massimo Proverbio, former Chief Data, AI, Innovation and Technology Officer of the institute since last March and IT Manager, Digital and Innovation Officer of Intesa Sanpaolo since January 2018.

“The new Governance Area stems from the need to place technology at the center of the transformation of the way of doing banking. It is a path that we must follow in symbiosis with the business because business choices and technical choices influence and enable each other. And we are already working in Agile mode to rethink the Digital Platforms serving customers and core banking; to introduce more effective responsible and aware use of data and AI in the Bank. The new organization enables this evolution because it places technology in a strong relationship with its users, a relationship that must have a strong proactive and transformative content” commented Massimo Proverbio.

All the details.

INTESA SANPAOLO FOLLOWS TECH COMPANIES

The new Governance Area – explains the note from Intesa Sanpaolo – implements the market best practices, typical of "tech companies", highlighting the distinctive elements of the corporate strategy – such as investments in artificial intelligence, cloud, cyber security and in the new digital bank – and at the same time ensuring the supervision of information systems at Group level in Italy and abroad.

THE TARGET

The reorganization has "the aim of further strengthening the attention to maintaining high levels of service, containing costs and risks". In addition to the talents already present in the company, the structure will be strengthened, as envisaged in the business plan, by the entry of around 2,000 IT professionals, to be hired from among the best on the market, to be offered constant professional development and growth over the time.

“The upgrading of the IT structures, with the hiring of 2,000 people, will allow us to have technology management that is truly a core competence of the bank, attractive for those who want to experiment with new technologies such as the cloud, AI and new architectures, and that it can also be a growth engine for the country's digital skills” added Proverbio.

THE NEW ORGANIZATION OF THE C-DAITO AREA

But moving on to the new structure, within the Chief Data, AI, Innovation and Technology Officer (C-DAITO) Governance Area, which remains entrusted to Massimo Proverbio, three coordination areas are created (Group Technology, entrusted to Enrico Bagnasco ; Digital Business Partner, entrusted to Vanna Alfieri; Transformation, entrusted to Paola Papanicolaou).

Furthermore, the company strengthens the function relating to Artificial Intelligence and enhancement of the Bank's information assets (entrusted to Marco Ditta) as well as the Cybersecurity function (which remains entrusted to Fabio Ugoste).
