Six large companies engaged in energy transition projects and coming from all over the world, from Turkey to Uzbekistan to Brazil, met about 80 Italian companies in the energy sector thanks to Sace.
The occasion, reads a note, was the business matching event organized by Sace – the insurance-financial company controlled by the Mef and active in supporting the competitiveness of companies in Italy and in the world.
The objective of these meetings – explains the group – is to facilitate the involvement of Italian companies in the energy sector in the current and potential projects of large global players grappling with the challenges of the energy transition, some of which already have a consolidated collaboration with Sace.
ON THE OCCASION OF GASTECH 2022
In particular, the meetings were held on the occasion of the Gastech 2022 event, the main global event dedicated to natural gas, LNG, hydrogen and low carbon technologies, focused precisely on the future challenges related to reconversion and energy sustainability.
BRSKEM, ENKA AND GULF CRYO AMONG FOREIGN COMPANIES
Thanks to the role of the Sace International Network, the meetings involved the Brazilian Braskem, the Uzbek Enter Engineering, the Turkish Çalik, Enka and Tupras and the Middle Eastern Gulf Cryo, which together have a turnover of over 34 billion dollars.
THE BUSINESS MATCHING ACTIVITY PROMOTED BY SACE
The initiative is part of the intense business matching activity promoted by the Sace Group which, in the last 4 years, has held a total of about 90 meetings with 4000 Italian companies, most of which SMEs, in Italy and abroad.
FOCUS SUSTAINABILITY
In addition to representing an export support service, this business matching is part of Sace's growing attention to the issue of sustainability.
Since the entry into force of the Simplification Decree of July 2020, thanks to which the group can issue public guarantees for green projects on the national territory, Sace has concluded 167 operations under the Green Guarantees, 84% of which alongside SMEs and MID-Corporate, for a total of 5.3 billion euros of contracts and investments guaranteed in 21 months of operation, the note indicates.
GREEN GUARANTEES
In particular, the Green Guarantees, against guaranteed by the Italian State, are intended to finance projects that have the purpose of facilitating the transition towards an economy with a lower environmental impact, integrating production cycles with low-emission technologies for the production of goods and sustainable services and promote new mobility with lower polluting emissions.
COMPANIES THAT HAVE BENEFITED
To date, companies of all sizes have benefited from it. According to the group, the latter confirms “Sace's commitment to support not only the great champions of the supply chain but also the smaller companies”. Promoting a broad sector diversification: 54% of resources were allocated to Infrastructure and Construction, 18% to renewables, 6% to the Metallurgical Industry and 22% to the remaining, including chemicals, petrochemicals and mechanics .
AGREEMENTS WITH BANKS
Then there are also green agreements with the banking system: Sace intervenes to support loans from 50,000 euros up to 15 million euros disbursed by credit institutions, destined both for large industrial conversion projects and for SMEs that intend to reduce their environmental impact and initiate a sustainable transformation. In this case, companies – corporations with a turnover of up to 500 million euros – can benefit from the 80% Green Guarantee, through a standardized and digitized process.
UNICREDIT, BANCA MPS AND BNL AMONG THE INVOLVED CREDIT INSTITUTES
As part of the operations in partnership with the Banks – launched in August 2021 with Intesa Sanpaolo to lead the way – 80 transactions have already been completed, in a system logic and in synergy with the credit institutions involved, including UniCredit, Banca Mps, Bnl, Bper and Banco BPM.
Furthermore, for about 20 years Sace has had a specialized unit that evaluates the environmental and social impacts of the operations and projects supported, following the guidelines of the OECD, carrying out the green commitment also in the field of export credit operations. .
THE ADOPTION OF THE CLIMATE CHANGE POLICY
Finally, the adoption of the Climate Change Policy is part of this process, a set of measures, in line with industry best practices, which introduces a ban on the support of operations for the production of coal-fired energy and extraction. , production and transport of “thermal” coal, as well as operations in the mining sector that involve the use of routine flaring and fracking techniques.
MEMBERSHIP TO THE POSEIDON PRINCIPLES
As well as the adhesion to the Poseidon Principles , the first agreement in the world between financial institutions on the subject of climate alignment. By joining the framework, Sace has undertaken to monitor the greenhouse gas emissions of its portfolio in the cruise and naval sector, in order to verify compliance with the decarbonisation objectives established by the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
