Space Pnrr: contracts for Space Factory awarded to Cesi, Thales Alenia Space Italia, Sitael, Argotec, Cira

The Italian Space Agency (ASI) has awarded all the contracts (57 million euros from Pnrr funds) for the Space Factory, a strategic asset in the small satellite sector. This concludes the procedure for assigning Pnrr contracts to ASI.

Cesi, Thales Alenia Space Italia, Sitael, Argotec, Cira were awarded the contracts for the construction of the Pnrr Space Factory.

The Italian Space Agency (ASI) has awarded all the contracts relating to "Research and technological development activities concerning the creation of the Space Factory of the Pnrr" in implementation of the Operational Plan of the sub-investment M1C2.I4.3 relating to the Space Factory – Space Factory 4.0 program.

The Space Factory – highlights the Agency – represents a strategic asset for our country in the context of construction processes for small satellites, strengthening and enhancing the skills of the national industrial chain of the rapidly growing sector. It will therefore act as a driving force for future investments that will come from individuals involved in the construction of satellite constellations and mega-constellations.

This concludes the procedure for awarding contracts financed by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (Pnrr) and entrusted to the Italian Space Agency. Also during the week, ASI had reported the award by the agency to a temporary consortium of companies – made up of Thales Alenia Space Italia, as agent, Avio, D-Orbit, Leonardo and Telespazio – of the assignment for the design and development of the national In-Orbit Servicing demonstration mission, for a value of approximately 235 million euro. And again, the Agency chaired by Giorgio Saccocia had awarded Avio the assignment for the design and development of the Multi-Purpose Green Engine, a "green" liquid propellant engine, for future applications of In-Orbit Servicing and Space Logistics, for an amount of approximately 55 million euros.

All the details.

57 MILLION CONTRACTS ASSIGNED BY ASI

In particular, the contracts awarded for a total of approximately 57 million euros from Pnrr funds and a contribution of the same amount co-financed by private participants, will concern: the increase in the production capacity of solar cells for space applications by of Cesi, the consolidation of industrial capabilities in the construction and testing of satellite components and parts, implementing process automation and digitization systems, especially in the sector of micro and small satellites of the Platino and Nimbus family by a Temporary Grouping of Companies ( RTI) consisting of Thales Alenia Space Italia (agent) and Sitael.

THE SPACE FACTORY PROVIDED FOR BY THE PNRR

And again, the creation of a Space Factory distributed and widespread throughout the national territory, from North to South, with specific features in order to ensure complete coverage of the various sectors of the satellite constellation market: from satellites weighing a few tens of kg mass and hundreds of units, up to those of a few hundred kg mass for constellations of a few dozen specimens and which can be produced in the plants of the joint venture companies consisting of Thales Alenia Space Italia (agent), Sitael, Argotec and Cira.

Finally, after the investment phase between ASI and the contractors involved, the establishment of a public-private partnership is envisaged to make the capabilities of the Space Factory available to all interested operators through facilitated access conditions.
