Stellantis, what is missing in the board of directors wanted by FCA and PSA

"We express dissatisfaction and disappointment for the lack of involvement of the trade unions in identifying the component that should represent FCA workers in the future Stellantis board of directors". The speech by Roberto Benaglia, general secretary of Fim Cisl, and Ferdinando Uliano, national secretary of Fim Cisl

We have been informed by FCA of the appointment of the eleven members of the Stellantis board.

We express our dissatisfaction and disappointment at the lack of involvement of trade unions in identifying the component that should represent FCA workers in the future Stellantis board.

The one made by FCA is a mistake, there are no extenuating circumstances. The FCA company has decided to go it alone in identifying the component that should, symmetrically to the one already present in PSA, represent the workers of Fiat Chrysler Automobile.

In Psa, thanks to supporting legislation, the representative was elected by the Works Council, recognized by a company agreement, which represents the trade unions present in all world sites.

As Fim and as Cisl we have for years believed that the process of worker participation in companies is an aspect that qualifies and values the contribution that men and women make every day in working contexts.

The participation of workers is strategic for us and is exercised on several levels. From bottom-up involvement of the same in the work processes that directly concern them, to the exercise of trade union activity through the democratic election of its representation in the workplace and as we have been claiming for many years also by its representation within the Boards of Directors or in the Supervisory Committees.

The latter is the least widespread and least practiced by companies in our country, also due to the absence of supporting legislation, unlike the French one. It is for this reason that we considered the opportunity that could be determined with the birth of Stellantis very positive.

It is for this reason that we consider FCA's decision not up to the times and challenges we face, perhaps still a victim of old cultural patterns present in Italian and Anglo-Saxon entrepreneurship. We would never have delegated our role and our trade union action to any member of any board of directors, but we consider the presence of a component of expression of the workers an added value for any company.

As Fim Cisl, we believe it is essential, however, that the entire FCA trade union movement opens a discussion with the nominated component, of Italian origin, to ask him the questions that directly concern FCA workers and the objectives that as trade union organizations of democratic workers' representation we believe it is essential to move forward, and to concretely verify the modalities with which it intends to exercise the assigned role.

For the Fim-Cisl industrial plans, investments and choices on the models and production platforms that can best enhance and safeguard the employment expressed in FCA are fundamental.

At the same time, we believe it is essential that, also in relation to Industriall Global Union and the other trade union organizations of the Group, solutions must be identified that will also lead the FCA trade union representatives to express their own representative within the Stellantis board.
