Tim, Vodafone, Iliad, Poste Mobile, Wind. Who goes up and who goes down in mobile telephony. Agcom report

Numbers and comparisons on the mobile network between Tim, Vodafone, Wind Tre, Iliad and not only in the annual report of the Communications Authority chaired by Giacomo Lasorella

Mobile telephony remains “a highly concentrated area”. The three operators (Tim, Vodafone and Wind Tre), with relatively similar shares (around 30%), represent just under 90% of the market. This was underlined by the annual report of AgCom chaired by Giacomo Lasorella .

According to the Communications Authority, however, "it should be noted that in 2020 Tim and Vodafone lost a total of 3.8 percentage points in favor of Iliad and the MVNOs who gained 3.5 (4.6 if we consider only the segment residential)".

In the fixed network market, on the other hand, even if in sharp decline, Tim still holds a share of more than 50%.

All the details.

ATTENTION TO LOW COST OFFERS IN THE MOBILE SEGMENT

In 2020 in the mobile segment, WindTre is the market leader with a market share of 30.7%, followed by Tim (29.6%) and Vodafone (28.4%). Iliad grows by 2 percentage points.

The Agcom data also show how the market, in the economic crisis caused by the pandemic, has paid particular attention to low cost offers, a segment that is on the whole most dominated by medium and small operators. In fact, with reference to virtual mobile operators (MVNOs) there was generally a substantial increase in turnover (+ 19.4%) with a turnover that reached over 700 million euros.

GROWING COOPVOCE, FASTWEB AND MOBILE MAILS

This result was achieved thanks to the growth of operators such as CoopVoce (+ 43%), Fastweb (+ 21.8%) and Poste Mobile (+ 15%), which remains the leader in the segment. With regard to market shares in the two voice and data segments, Vodafone, while maintaining its leadership in the voice segment (38.8%), loses 1.7 percentage points, while in data services Iliad gains 3.7, reaching touch 9%.

THE FIXED NETWORK MARKET

With reference to the revenues generated by the overall expenditure of households and businesses for fixed network services, Tim is confirmed as the leading operator.

“Even if in sharp decline – notes the authority chaired by Lasorella – it still holds a stake of more than 50%. Fastweb grows by 1.4 percentage points, strengthening its position as the second fixed network operator ”.

CONCENTRATION IN THE RESIDENTIAL SEGMENT

Considering the competitive relationships by type of user, a greater concentration in the residential segment is confirmed in 2020 compared to the business segment. The top 4 operators (Tim, Vodafone, WindTre and Fastweb) represent in fact about 92% of the market.

FASTWEB GROWS IN THE BUSINESS SEGMENT

In the business segment, where there are more medium-sized operators, Fastweb grew (+2.4 percentage points), reaching almost 22%.
