What do Israel’s services think about the deal with Iran?

Diversity of views in the Israeli intelligence services regarding the nuclear deal with Iran. The article by Giuseppe Gagliano

The Israeli security services are deeply divided over the nuclear deal with Iran.

On the one hand, there is Aharon Haliva, director of Aman, in favor of an agreement with Iran. In fact, during the meetings that are usually held with Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid, Haliva stressed that it is in Israel's interest to come to an agreement. This agreement, known as the JCPOA, would increase certainty about restrictions on Iran's nuclear program and that these sanctions allow Israel to prepare for an eventual escalation with Iran.

On the other hand, however, the head of the Mossad, David Barnea, who expressed opposition to this agreement: according to him, the agreement would lead to a significant flow of billions of dollars into Iran – which are, as we know, currently blocked. because of the sanctions -; and secondly, the envisaged agreement covers only a short period of time, after which Iran could – with the help of China and Russia – develop nuclear weapons.

However, this contrast between the two security services is certainly not new: in fact both the former director of the Mossad, Yossi Cohen, and the former director of Aman, Tamir Hayman, had had the same conflicts for the same reasons.
