What Enel X and Leonardo will do in Cameri (F-35)

Thanks to Enel X, Leonardo will optimize the use of energy assets at the Aircraft Division plant in Cameri, in the province of Novara, where the F-35s are assembled.

Leonardo joins forces with Enel X. The Italian company active in the defense, aerospace and security sectors is committed, through the technology of the electricity company , to the injection into the grid of energy not absorbed by production activities.

The initiative will benefit the national electricity system, according to the two companies. All the details.

WHAT LEONARDO WILL DO WITH ENEL X

Leonardo will optimize the use of the energy assets of the Aircraft Division plant in Cameri, in the province of Novara, where the F-35s are assembled. The move will make the plant more efficient with consequences not only for the company, but also for the safety of national electricity supplies, says the group headed by the managing director, Alessandro Profumo.

THE INPUT OF ENERGY INTO THE NETWORK

The energy not absorbed by production activities, in fact, will be fed into the national electricity grid, for a quantity equivalent to a power of up to 2 MW, the equivalent of that available to approximately 650 households. For all of this, Leonardo will rely on Enel X's Demand Response technology to monitor and verify the amount of energy fed into the grid by the trigeneration plant.

The initiative kicks off as part of the national dispatching project promoted by the Terna grid operator dedicated to UVAMs (Mixed Enabled Virtual Units).

A FIRST STEP

The energy introduced will contribute to the stabilization of the grid when required by the system. The project, which currently concerns the factory in the province of Novara, can be developed with new Energy Management initiatives.

THE COMMENT OF VENTURINI (ENEL X)

“We are particularly pleased to be able to support Leonardo, one of the largest companies in the country, on its path towards sustainability. Enel X's innovative Demand Response Services will allow the group to maximize the benefits of operating the Cameri trigeneration plant, while providing essential support for the safety of the electricity grid, ”said Francesco Venturini, CEO of Enel X.

THE WORDS OF CIOFFI (LEONARDO)

“The contribution of a technologically advanced asset such as the production plant in Cameri (where the F-35s are assembled, ed ) to the national electricity grid represents one of the concrete examples with which Leonardo actively supports the country system. Joining the Demand Response project further enriches our Energy Management initiatives which represent one of the levers of Leonardo's sustainability path, in line with the company's energy efficiency objectives ", commented Lucio Valerio Cioffi, general manager of Leonardo.
