A lesson on the “Chinese model”: Western politicians, managers and professors in Beijing’s schools of indoctrination

The news, knowing the Chinese desire to spread its political-social model around the world, is not surprising at all. However, it is worth thinking about the fact that the People's Republic is investing large sums to promote the aforementioned model among politicians, managers and academics from other countries.

Let's start from the fact that, according to the leaders of Beijing, China has finally managed to definitively defeat poverty, a result which – as will be recalled – in the Italian context was also one of the main objectives of Di Maio and the 5 Star Movement. Except that for the grillini everything was reduced to a farce with a collective appearance on the balcony of Palazzo Chigi.

But, you know, the Chinese are more serious. Here, then, is Xi Jinping and his management team organizing very crowded virtual meetings in Beijing and in other centers of the Dragon in which the success of the famous five-year plans that had previously buried the USSR is exalted, while in China they would constitute a sure instrument to ensure endless economic success.

The propaganda machine set up by the Communist Party has managed to attract crowds of foreign personalities from over 100 nations on several occasions. As might be expected, the largest turnout was from African and Latin American countries. But Asians, Europeans, Australians and New Zealanders are far from absent.

To this end, the Communist Party has created an ad hoc structure called the "Development Department". Dependent precisely on the Party and not on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, this Department has, on the one hand, great autonomy and, on the other, considerable financial resources. Xi immediately made it clear that his purpose is not to "export" the Chinese model. However, the officials involved are doing just that, insisting on the factors that allowed the People's Republic to grow.

One party is therefore exalted since, as is well known, the presence of several political formations in free electoral competition between them is nothing – from the Chinese point of view – but a factor of great disorder, such as to prevent a healthy and balanced development of society (and here, once again, the Confucian inspiration superimposed on the Marxist one is at work).

It should be noted that, in these meetings, communism is not mentioned at all. The Chinese, in fact, do not pay attention to the ideological inspiration of foreign participants. They admit politicians from both the right and the left, since what really matters is to increase the pro-Chinese consensus in parties around the world, whatever their ideological matrix.

The delegates come – as I noted earlier – not only from the Third and Fourth World countries, but also from advanced nations such as Japan, Spain, Australia, New Zealand and from the United States of America itself. In the end, a joint declaration was signed recognizing the Beijing government – and therefore the Communist Party – of having created a virtuous country, in which social harmony and the will to promote collective progress (as opposed to individual progress) dominate. .

It is therefore not an organ comparable to the Comintern or the Cominform of Soviet memory. The Chinese, in addition to not being interested in the Communist Parties of other countries, insist on the absolute originality (and success) of their approach to the problems of politics, society and the economy.

Some African states finance their officials' trips to China to learn the secrets of the Chinese "miracle". And the aforementioned Department of Development claims to have contacts with about 600 political organizations in 160 countries. Really huge numbers, which show how insidious – especially for the West – Beijing's propaganda strategy is.

And, by now we know, this strategy finds attentive minds and ears in Italy and Europe as well, with consequences that could soon become relevant. Last but not least , one of the most discussed topics in these international meetings is precisely that of the pandemic. Although no one has yet figured out how, the Chinese say they have finally defeated the coronavirus just as the rest of the world is still blocked from its spread. Few seem willing to argue that Beijing lies in this and other cases. The institutional chaos created in the United States after the last elections certainly does not help to counteract Chinese lies, favoring the image of a West in full crisis and of an increasingly rampant China.
