And, unfortunately, it is happening, just take a ride on social media , but also pay attention to the discussions that tear families and friendships apart.
We have already pointed out the criticalities, from multiple points of view, of the extension of the Green Pass far beyond the original purpose for which it was introduced, or in practice to save Schengen , prevent free movement within the EU, already injured, collapsed completely under a Vietnam of national restrictions including quarantines, tests and so on. It didn't even help reopen the discos, as promised a few weeks ago: they will remain closed …
One critical issue above all: the introduction of a surreptitious, sneaky vaccination obligation. Instead of making the anti- Covid vaccine a compulsory health treatment by law, as the Constitution would allow (article 32), and like many already compulsory vaccines, a cross and divisive way was chosen to "oblige" the most recalcitrant Italians, or simply doubters, to get vaccinated: that of exclusion from social life. It starts from indoor bars and restaurants, gyms, swimming pools, theaters, cinemas, stadiums, events and outdoor events, to arrive early to transport, school and work. Time to get organized because in these last cases the issue is more complex, the premier admitted.

And why hasn't the most direct, and at least honest, way of making it compulsory been chosen? Maybe because they are emergency approved vaccines, without decades of field testing? Perhaps because it would mean taking direct responsibility for adverse reactions, including the very rare fatal ones? Perhaps. For the moment here we are content to return to yesterday's press conference, during which the President of the Council Draghi, flanked by the ministers of health and justice, illustrated the decisions of the Council of Ministers.
We have never been enchanted by the rhetoric of "competence", by the adulation of the figure of Mario Draghi, by the preventive celebration of his salvific deeds as prime minister, while recognizing his undoubted qualities.
It is a fact, however, that Draghi and his ministers have been unanimously greeted by commentators and mainstream media such as the premier and the Super Competent government, after the years of terrible and ignorant populists.
How is it a fact – even if very few today will dare to detect it – that yesterday at the press conference Draghi showed a total, clear, sensational incompetence on the dossier that had just been dealt with in the Council of Ministers, moreover leading to a decision of enormous impact on the lives and constitutional freedoms of millions of Italians. And unfortunately it is not the first time that the premier at the press conference shows that he does not know the dossiers that go beyond strictly economic and monetary matters.
Speaking of the provision on the Green Pass , Draghi said verbatim:
“It is a measure with which Italians can continue to carry on their activities, to have fun, to go to restaurants, to participate in outdoor and indoor shows. With the guarantee, however, of finding oneself among people who are not contagious “.
Now, the Italians will also be on average ignorant, but at this point many of them will have undoubtedly understood what Prime Minister Draghi has shown that he is still unaware: even the vaccinated can be contagious. Perhaps, but only with many perhaps , a little less than the unvaccinated, but certainly there is no guarantee that among the vaccinated there are no contagious people. Fact-checking ? A totally false, unscientific claim.
But particularly serious because it is precisely the matter of the dispute of the decree approved yesterday. Because if it is true, as it is (and data from the United Kingdom and Israel confirm this), that vaccinated people can be positive and infectious, excluding the unvaccinated from social life as if they were the only infectors has no basis from the point of epidemiological view or at least – let's put it this way – it is a highly disproportionate measure.
We always return to the point addressed yesterday by Gioli : vaccines protect against serious disease, they do not guarantee the senseless “Covid zero” goal. They drastically reduce hospitalizations and deaths and this must be enough for us to return to complete normality, because if we wait for the day when we will register "zero cases" it could take years, decades. Certainly reaching a high percentage of the vaccinated population is a desirable goal also to reduce the transmission of the virus, as well as the pressure on the health system, but since they do not prevent contagion, these vaccines represent individual protection, not "altruistic".
Knowing that the Super Competent Prime Minister ignores the main technical-scientific question underlying yesterday's decision on the Green Pass is not reassuring at all, not at all. What hands are we in?
Another sentence spoken yesterday by Draghi made us jump from the chair:
“The appeal not to get vaccinated is an appeal to die: you don't get vaccinated, you get sick, you die. Or you let them die: you don't get vaccinated, you get infected, he or she dies ".
A pure distillation of terrorism and, again, a complete falsehood. Not only those who do not get vaccinated, but also those who get vaccinated can (it is an eventuality) infect and "kill". We are perhaps too addicted and distracted to look with clarity and the right concern at what is happening to our rule of law: the permanent emergency logic and the "zero risk" approach to the pandemic, with the consequent systematic recourse to important and lasting restrictions of individual freedoms are already profoundly changing our democracies. An illiberal, authoritarian twist, from which it will be difficult to straighten them, because in the meantime the citizens' feeling of distrust in the capacity of democratic systems to ensure well-being, freedom and security is swelling.
