Economic Scenarios

Dear Socci, excellent observations, but to get married (to the Government) you need to be at least two …

Groom waiting for the bride to come

I read an article from Antonio Socci's blog on the position of the Center-right with great interest: after all, the writer is always very lucid in his visions and explicit in his statements, as well as being an excellent pen from which there is a lot to learn. However, in this specific case, I find myself in disagreement.

Socci has a shared vision by stating that a new government cannot be left in the hands of the old majority, with or without Renzi, and that the center-right must, or should, take on its responsibilities as a government, not pushing exclusively on elections. The reasoning is not, per se, wrong: to leave a government incapable and devastated or try to responsibly take its political weight in hand and try to minimize the damage?

The problem that everyone underestimates is that, to get married, it takes two, and above all a minimum of love must arise, not hate. The current yellow-red government has a majority, if it includes the Renzian component, so there is no reason why they should send an offer to participate in the center-right. The current government is based only on managing power and having the majority, why should it share it?

There are only two cases in which the current majority might want enlargement:

  • A deep quarrel on a personal basis between the exponents of the current majority, but personal conflicts are resolved by eliminating one of the personalities, and it seems to me that the current majority does not have much scruples on the matter. Therefore this possibility is residual;
  • The search for further accomplices to share the responsibilities of an increasingly evident misrule. This is the famous government of "National Unity", but this would be possible only with truly third parties, and not only because they have held this or that figure who has held an institutional position. The choice must be common and cannot be imposed, because the imposition violates impartiality.

From what was reported by Senator Vitali, who returned to Forza Italia, Salvini would also be willing to support a government "of broad agreement", provided it obviously contains two essential points for the League's program, namely tax reform and that of justice. These are really minimal conditions, but do you see them accepted by the party that made a flag out of Bonafede's mess-justicialism? Can the tax reform be accepted by those who, slavishly following the dictates of an increasingly distant Brussels, are about to start the land registry reform creating, in fact, a heavy patrimonial property?

To get married it takes two, and here one of the couple is missing. Then we are like St. Thomas, and we wait to see first hand what the future will bring.
