German company opens drone factory in Ukraine, hoping it will last

Quantum-Systems, a Munich-based manufacturer and developer of unmanned aerial vehicles, announced the launch of its first production factory and second branch in Ukraine. Over the next two years, the manufacturer will invest 6 million euros in the plant. As long as it doesn't become a target for Russian drones.

Who is Quantum-Systems and about its activity in Ukraine

Founded in 2015, Quantum-Systems specializes in the development, design and manufacturing of small unmanned aerial systems for customers in the security, defense, public safety, commercial and GIS operations industries. The company is headquartered at Oberpfaffenhofen Special Airport, with sales offices in the United States, Australia and Ukraine.

Drone Trinity Vector

Quantum systems have been in use in Ukraine since May 2022. So far, 212 systems have been made available through the German Enablement Initiative. In Ukraine, the company already operates a local service, support, training and logistics center with 25 employees. They train drone pilots and implement technological advances in reconnaissance systems directly on site.

Quantum drones, small in size, optimized for observation and reconnaissance. They have a range of 25 km and can reach speeds of 85 km/h. They are vertical take-off vehicles, therefore they can be launched from anywhere, and, being equipped with electric motors, they are extremely silent.

Investing in Ukraine in this period is a sign of great trust in the country and, probably, also the ability to obtain funds that cover a considerable risk.

Plans for the future

The inauguration of the plant took place on April 18 in the presence of the Ukrainian Minister of Strategic Industry, Olexander Kamyshin. It will employ around 100 people by the end of 2024. Quantum Systems also plans to invest up to 6 million euros in the plant over the next two years.

By the end of the year, a total of 500 Quantum Systems reconnaissance drones are scheduled to be delivered to Ukraine. The new production facility is expected to increase production capacity to 1,000 drones per year, including the production of spare parts.
