Italian-Hungarian conference on the economy in Hungary

2023-10-11_Hungary Economy Conference_Positive Currency

On 11 October 2023, a unique event of its kind was held in Lakitelek in Hungary, an Italian-Hungarian conference entitled " Can a positive world be created? ”, in which 5 Italian economists, not belonging to the single mainstream thought, discussed with 5 illustrious Hungarian economists, on the future of our two countries and more generally on the future of humanity.

The Italian economists invited were: the indestructible Antonino Galloni , the President of the Positive Monetary Association Fabio Conditi , the father of the fiscal currency Marco Cattaneo , the talented Guido Grossi and the Vice President of the Positive Monetary Association Stefano Di Francesco .

On the YouTube channel Un Mondo Positivo we have published the full speeches of each Italian speaker and a video of the television reports produced by Hungarian TV: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC8FoI6ogudjv_rL6xndVjtQ .

This is Fabio Conditi's first speech on " how a positive world can be created ", followed by all the others and the Hungarian television reports.

Instead, on the Moneta Positiva YouTube Channel there are videos of the live streaming that was done, divided into 4 parts, with all the interventions of both the organizers and the alternating Italian and Hungarian economists: https://www.youtube.com /@MonetaPositiva .

The conference was organized by the Hungarian Fine Arts Association, the Kecskemet University, Faculty of Economics, and the Hungarikum Cultural Center, and they presented the event:

  • Sándor Lezsák , Vice President of the Hungarian Parliament;
  • József Gaál , President of the Bács-Kiskun Province Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Deputy Mayor of the Kecskemét municipality.

The Hungarian economists, all of the highest institutional level, who met with the Italian economists, were:

  • Gyula Pleschinger , president of the Hungarian Economic Society (MKT) and member of the Monetary Board of the Hungarian National Bank (MNB);
  • Katalin Bihari , Undersecretary of State, responsible for foreign trade development at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade;
  • Róbert Zsigó , MP, Vice-President of the Italian-Hungarian Friendship Group in the Parliament, Hungarian Family Policy and the European Union;
  • Dr. Kristóf Lehmann , head of the Directorate of International Monetary Policy and Economic Sciences of the Hungarian National Bank (MNB);
  • Éva Palócz , general director of Kopint-Tárki, vice-president of the Hungarian Economic Society (MKT).

The event was and is certainly one of a kind, and for several reasons, all very important:

  • it is certainly the first time that two nations, with two different monetary systems (Italy has adopted the euro, while Hungary still maintains the forint), discuss mutual economic problems and above all try to collaborate in finding solutions common;
  • Hungary is represented by prominent politicians (Vice President of Parliament, Deputy, Undersecretary of State and Deputy Mayor) and by representatives of the major monetary institutions of their country, the Hungarian National Bank (MNB) and the Hungarian Economic Society (MKT), but they deliberately compare themselves (they had all the abstracts of our reports) with economists of a new concept, certainly opposed to the single neoliberal thought, so widespread in Italy and in the world;
  • the event also had a certain media coverage in Hungary, there were newspapers and television stations present that are not seen in Italy, a sign that Hungarians are much freer and braver than their Italian colleagues.

For those who want to read the Hungarian reports, I list just a few:

Hungary has not yet joined the euro, but has made a commitment to do so sooner or later. For now he has decided that the decision is postponed until after 2030, so he has all the time and desire to implement a third way that will allow him to regain control of his real economy, his banking system and his public debt . For this reason, she is very interested in our ideas, which allow us to exercise our sovereignty regardless of the monetary unit of measurement used.

Only in this way will he be able to make this choice in a free and thoughtful way, deciding always and only according to the national interests of his people, as it should be in all nations, even in our fantastic Italy.

We went to Hungary to "speak to mother-in-law so that daughter-in-law will understand", that is, with the not so hidden objective of speaking to Hungarian politicians so that they understand Italian politicians.

If the Hungarians listen to us and are interested in our solutions, despite having their own sovereign currency, perhaps the Italians will also understand that the problem is not the euro, but how you use it.
