Solar becomes portable in containers and can be disassembled anywhere

Austrian startup Solar Container has unveiled a highly sophisticated and portable photovoltaic energy system capable of fitting 240 solar panel modules into a standard-sized container.

The system can be transported anywhere in the world and set up as a grid-independent energy system in just five hours, with a simple click of a button. We therefore have a simple portable solar energy solution that can be adapted to various situations. The power is equal to 140 kW, sufficient to power emergency events or situations.

As the world looks to move away from fossil fuels, renewable energy sources like solar are getting a huge boost. Countries like China and India are racing to build the world's largest clean energy plants, capable of powering millions of homes at a time.

While these projects meet large-scale energy needs, another segment of off-grid locations also needs to be served with cleaner energy. In the past, localities have installed their own PV modules to remain independent of the grid.

However, if the location needs additional clean energy to organize an event or relief operation, a portable solar power unit would be ideal. This is exactly what SolarCont can offer.

SolarCont is designed to fit inside a standard-sized shipping container that measures just over six meters long, is nearly 2.4 meters wide and 2.9 meters high.

The standardized dimensions allow indoor packaged solar modules to be moved anywhere in the world, using container ships, freight trains or container transport trucks. The container also ensures that the green energy generators are transported compactly and safely and that they arrive in excellent condition for working on site.

Once the container reaches the installation site, the container components are removed and the solar module package is placed on flat ground. Just press a button to begin the process of unpacking the 240 solar panels, and the system comes apart like an accordion.

Using a team of three or four people, the installation can be deployed to occupy 7,750 square feet (720 square meters) in about five hours and generate power immediately. When energy is no longer needed, the modules can be easily folded into a container-friendly configuration.

Energy production

SolarCont is delivered with pre-assembled modules, fully wired and connected to an inverter. So, it can start generating power as soon as unpacking is completed. Basically just open it and it's ready to work. It can also be used in line with other units or be connected to battery packs

Considering that an average family in Germany consumes 4,000 kWh of electricity per year, SolarCont can meet the energy needs of 32 families.

If the installation is carried out in a brighter environment, such as southern Europe, the higher level of solar radiation could satisfy the electricity demand of even 50 households.

The dual-side distribution of the panel also ensures that the cable length between the modules and the inverter is minimized and the energy conversion efficiency is higher.

It is easier to increase energy production at a site by adding more SolarCont units, making it a well-thought-out modular system. The clean energy generation system can stabilize the grid or reduce dependence on fossil fuel-fired generators.

Its use is optimal for all off-grid situations that need to be supplied with energy without being connected to the grid, such as events, emergencies or production activities on construction sites or in isolated locations.
