Surprise: Poland surpasses the US as the world’s battery producer, but that’s not the only surprise

Surprise surprise, after China the world's second largest battery producer is… Poland. This Eastern European country surpasses the USA as a producer. But the surprises don't stop there: Hungary is the fourth largest producer in the world! Here is the relative graph where the ranking is shown:

Italy is not even present, relegated among the "Others", and this indicates that by now our automotive industry is in complete abandonment.

It was obviously not local producers who built battery plants in Poland and Hungary. These two countries are the place of outsourcing of productions for the German industry. To be precise in Poland, in Wroclav, LG has built the largest European battery factory about which not much is known, except that, according to EIB data, it should produce 65 GW/h of batteries per year. Hungary, on the other hand, has seen a big investment from the Chinese house CATL, while BMW and Mercedes have also built their own factories locally.

So the EU, at least in theory, has abundantly surpassed the USA in battery production, but these are plants largely financed by foreign countries. Therefore, these are plants either under foreign control or the result of relocations. However, in Italy we don't even have this anymore: the sale of FCA to Peugeut has now led to the end of our euro industry, and therefore also of the batteries: in fact, France which has maintained it is still in ninth place in the ranking.
