All American weapons requested by Poland

All American weapons requested by Poland

The article by Giuseppe Gagliano

While Poland is accelerating a series of acquisitions due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Polish Defense Minister Mariusz Błaszczak announced that he has signed a letter of request to purchase approximately 500 M142 High Mobility Artillery Missile Systems, or HIMARS, from the United States.

"We are increasing the capabilities of our missile and artillery forces," Błaszczak said in a tweet released by his ministry. “I signed a LOR relating to the acquisition of approximately 500 HIMARS M142 launchers for more than 80 Homar system batteries”.

The minister said that, according to the plan, a significant share of these systems would be produced by factories based in Poland and Warsaw and aims to ensure "the integration of weapons with the Polish battlefield management system".

In October 2018, the Polish government sent an official request to purchase Lockheed Martin's launchers as part of its Homar program from the United States. The two governments signed an agreement in February 2019, allowing the procurement of a total of 20 launchers in the first phase of the program.

The Polish Ministry of National Defense said the first HIMARS contract was worth around $ 414 million. Deliveries under this agreement are expected to be completed by 2023.
The latest development comes just days after Błaszczak announced that his ministry had submitted a letter requesting the purchase of six additional Patriot batteries from the United States in an effort to bolster Poland's medium-range air defense capabilities.
