Because I want a national unity government chaired by Draghi. Sister Anna Monia Alfieri speaks

Start Magazine conversation with Sister Anna Monia Alfieri on the Draghi government: expectations and proposals

“I look with confidence at the composition of a government of national unity which certainly can have the premises and the courage to introduce system reforms. We need to overcome the logic of subsidies, as Mario Draghi said last August ”.

This is the wish of Sister Anna Monia Alfieri, who graduated in Law at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Milan in 2001. She obtained the Magisterium of Theology, pedagogical-didactic address at the ISSR of Milan and a degree in Economics in Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in 2007.

Sister Anna Monia Alfieri is one of the most accredited voices on the problems of the organization of training systems, she collaborates with the Non-Profit Entities Division of Altis (High School, Business and Society) of the University of the Sacred Heart of Milan, for the organization of courses of Higher Education (in management and high school management) for Religious Institutes and for teaching in them. Since 2016 he has been a member of the School Pastoral Consultancy and of the National School Council of the CEI.

Sister Anna, what role should the state play in school education? And what do you expect from the Draghi government?

Also in this case the answer is simple: the State must recover the value of its role as guarantor of the proper functioning of state and equal schools and no longer as sole manager with the consequent donation of shortages and jobs, just like the sportula of the ancients. Romans. The role of the State is subsidiary to what citizens normally perform with their own free action that produces income (not only economic and patrimonial) for themselves and for others, strengthening a subsidiarity that from horizontal becomes circular. We must overcome the logic of subsidiarity on the contrary that has seen for years 1) the family pay the school twice, providing more than 6 billion euros to the state, 2) the heads of the state school, lacking organizational autonomy, heroically conduct a school slave of bureaucracy. We have to overcome the logic of subsidies, as Mario Draghi said last August.

So are you confident of a positive outcome for the political crisis?

I have always been sure that we would get out of the crisis thanks to the ways of democracy and that is Parliament. Also because the situation is so complicated that the help of all the best is needed. Having said that, a crisis like this only comes out by overcoming party barriers: this is why I felt fully represented by President Mattarella in his speech. I also share the commas!

What should the new government's priorities be?

Among the priorities there should certainly be the one that Dr. Draghi highlighted, last August, speaking at the Rimini Meeting . It is necessary to start from school and invest in young people, creating the conditions for an Italy that returns to be a protagonist in Europe and in the world.

What struck you about Draghi's words at the Rimini Meeting ?

I want the words that prof. Draghi said on that occasion: they have a deep meaning and of high civil value. The subsidies are used to survive, to restart. However, we need to give more to young people: the subsidies will run out and, if nothing has been done, the lack of a professional qualification will remain, which can sacrifice their freedom of choice and their future income. Society as a whole cannot accept a world without hope; but he must, having gathered all his energies and rediscovered a common feeling, must seek the path of reconstruction ”. Again: “But there is also a moral reason that must push us to this choice and to do it well: the debt created by the pandemic is unprecedented and will have to be repaid mainly by those who are young people today. It is our duty to ensure that they have all the tools to do so while living in better societies than ours. For years a form of collective selfishness has induced governments to distract human capacities and other resources in favor of objectives with more certain and immediate political return: this is no longer acceptable today. Depriving a young person of the future is one of the most serious forms of inequality ”.

So come on Draghi?

I believe that it is not necessary to add more: I wish prof. Draghi to find the responsible collaboration of all political forces to be able to concretely realize those principles so clearly affirmed and which give new life to our country. Best wishes, Prof. Draghi!
