The Italian anti-hacker companies are now close to 3 thousand units and continue to grow. Our cybersecurity champions in the last two and a half years have in fact achieved an increase of more than 6% after the real leap experienced in 2017-2019 (+ 300%).

THE FRAMEWORK DRAWN BY UNIONCAMERE-INFOCAMERE

According to an elaboration by Unioncamere-InfoCamere on data from the Register of Companies of the Chambers of Commerce, in recent years the increase in the number of employees has also continued (+7,000 between 2018 and 2020), passing from 21,500 to 28,400 units, corresponding to an average of 15 employees per company.

LAZIO REGION FIRST FOR NUMBER OF COMPUTER SECURITY COMPANIES

The highest concentration of “digital custodians” is recorded in Lazio, where 679 companies were based as of 30 September last (23% of the total). In second place is Lombardy (with 535 resident businesses at the end of September). Campania, Sicily and Veneto (with 304, 207 and 194 companies, respectively) follow for the diffusion of anti-hacker companies.

In terms of employees, the companies that have created the most job opportunities are located in Lombardy, Lazio and Trentino Alto Adige which, with their 18,000 employees, represent 64% of the entire sector. Campania, in sixth place in this ranking, is the first among the regions of the South with 1,474 employees and 5.2% of the total.

ALMOST 3 BILLION EURO THE VALUE OF PRODUCTION IN 2020

From the point of view of financial performance, analyzing the financial statements of the 815 companies in the sector set up in the form of joint stock companies and which presented the financial statements in the last three years (32% of the total), in 2020 the value of production was almost 3 billion euros, up 58.8% compared to that achieved by the same companies in 2018.

On average, this is equivalent to a production value of approximately 3.7 million euros per capita for Italian cyber-security companies. With 1.3 billion (44.8% of the total), Lazio is on the top step of the podium in terms of turnover achieved by companies in the sector. Lombardy is second only with 754 million, while the third region, very distant, is Emilia-Romagna (294 million).
