Did the Order of Journalists arrive late on Giambruno too?

The Order of Journalists moves (late) on Giambruno, taking a stand for an outrage while it had said nothing about the sad statements of the presenter live. And Gaia Tortora of the La7 news is right. The letter from Claudio Trezzano

Dear director,

I am writing you this letter because I know that you also give space to minority and openly polemical opinions. And I really believe that my opinion could be on a collision course with the Order of Journalists which it wasted no time in demonstrating by intervening on the Giambruno affair (with the "m" or the "n"? There is no newspaper that doesn't is speaking and everyone has an opinion even on how to write it), which moves punctually late and in any case always in favor of the camera.

Let me explain better: I have just read from the agencies that the former partner of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni was reported by the Council of the Order of Journalists of Lombardy to its territorial disciplinary council regarding the outbursts of Striscia la Notizia . Is this the only one that seems strange to me? Am I the only one reading an attempt by the Order to participate in the media ambush against the Mediaset host?

First of all, there is a fundamental hypocrisy which pointed out, more effectively than I could ever do, Gaia Tortora, that the world of television journalism knows him well given that he works on the La7 news program: "If the half of the off-air hosts on TV would no longer be there,”he wrote on X. Of course, it sounds a bit like someone who gets a fine for running a red light and takes it out on the traffic policeman because ten other motorists before him have committed the same infringement: the fact that everyone does this doesn't make the attitude of the single not punishable.

And I don't mean that. However, I say that first of all we should give the outliers the weight of the outliers. Because if you write something in a private email, or in a chat, it is not the same as writing it in a newspaper. In the same way, saying something with the cameras "off" (for everyone but not for Ricci, it seems) should not have the same weight as indulging in the same bad comments live: it can constitute entertainment for the viewers of the Ligurian author and his news program satirical with showgirls and gabibbi, but fellow journalists, knowing all this and being aware that everyone in their own private life, for fun and joking, can give the worst of themselves, should fly a little higher than Striscia . Or do we instead want to think that the Order is like Striscia ?

All this is made even more serious by the fact that I am not aware that any measures had been taken previously, on the sentences that Giambruno uttered live, and therefore in the official capacity of the television journalist. Now, leaving aside the hornet's nest that erupted over his declaration on the climate ("The news, assuming it is news, is that in July it is hot and it will probably snow in December, but according to environmentalists it is the fault of us citizens"), a hornet's nest that has always seemed lunar to me, given that it triggered the accusation of being a "climate denier" (woe to pronouncing out loud that mid-seasons no longer exist!), other statements of his were in my opinion more lopsided, certainly aggravated by the fact of having been spoken on the air.

Starting from the one, characterized by an annoying paternalism of yesteryear , on the victims of sexual violence, a topic so serious that it only deserves reflections equally serious and respectful of the victims (otherwise it is better to remain silent): "If you go dancing, you have every right to get drunk – there must be no type of misunderstanding and no type of stumble – but if you avoid getting drunk and losing consciousness, perhaps you also avoid running into certain problems and then actually risk the wolf finding you". Well, there I honestly expected the Order to say something, raise a little hand, moan a little. Instead, dear director – correct me if I'm wrong -, dead silence.

Speaking of contemptuous comments on sensitive topics: let's not forget that Giambruno defined the movement of migrants as "transhumance", which is classic for cows. Now, if I'm not mistaken, there is a document, called the Rome Charter , which for Italian journalists acts as a code of ethics to be followed to the letter whenever information is provided on asylum seekers, refugees, victims of trafficking and migrants. Even the Charter of Rome invites us to use a standardized technical glossary so as not to disrespect those who, inevitably, find themselves in a delicate situation. Correct me again if I'm wrong, but the Order was silent that time too.

Now, I may be naive and I won't know how it is in the world, but this whole affair leaves me with quite a few questions which, if I haven't already bored you too much, I would like to share: is it possible that the Order of Journalists is only intervening now , who haven't talked about anything else for days, demonstrating among other things that they aren't even that on the ball, given that the scandal exploded between last Thursday and Friday while the position statement only arrived today? Is it possible that the Order of Journalists gives greater weight to what one of its members says out of the blue, in what – judging from the images – appears to be a jovial, jovial moment (the comments are from a tavern, but between friends and work colleagues sometimes you let yourself go, right?) compared to what is said on the show about migrants and raped women?

If Striscia la Notizia got hold of what TV journalists jokingly say to each other via email or chat, could these private exchanges between colleagues still give rise to similar sanctions? This delayed move by the Order will not only be a way to show, belatedly, that the organization exists and strikes a blow but that in any case it always arrives only after the courts of public opinion, social media and even by Antonio Ricci have already issued their sentence?
