THE ATTACK

WHAT HAPPENED

The company would have been affected, in particular, by a "variant of the RagnarLocker ransomware", commented General Umberto Rapetto , specifying that this computer virus "does not just encrypt the data but also provides for their exfiltration, or their copy and the subsequent transfer to a server in the hands of the offenders ".

CAMPARI: SOME DATA HAS BEEN LOST

Confirming what Rapetto describes, the company on November 6 states : “The security and confidentiality of all data are top priorities for us. Unfortunately, we see the loss of some data: we are still investigating the attack and, in particular, determining to what extent the loss of confidentiality and availability of certain personal and business data has occurred. At this stage, we cannot rule out that some personal and business data have been breached ”.

DEMANDING RESTORATION

In the meantime, the operation to restore the IT services continues. Restoration, however, which is more demanding than expected. "Some services have been progressively restarted after the completion of the sanitation activity and the installation of additional safety measures", writes the group in a note, adding: "In the meantime, other systems remain temporarily and deliberately suspended or operating with functional reduced in several sites, waiting to be sanitized or reconstituted with the aim of restoring full operation in a completely safe way ".

“Our goal is to ensure business continuity as widely as possible for our businesses as well as those of our customers and business counterparties. Therefore, continuity plans are being implemented according to a certain order of priority with the aim of restoring activities in the quickest, albeit more prudent, way to avoid any future relapse ”, added Campari.

THE FINANCIAL EFFECTS

It is not excluded that longer recovery and restart times and data loss can also have financial repercussions. “We constantly monitor the situation to evaluate and minimize recovery times. But, as a result of the longer recovery times than initially expected, we expect what has happened to have some temporary effect on the Group's financial performance ”.

THE NUMBERS OF THE CAMPARI GROUP

The company, reads the financial report , closed the first nine months of 2020 with revenues of 1,282.5 million euros, down by 1.6%, compared to the result obtained in 2019 with net revenues of 1,303.8 million euros recorded from January to September 30th.
