Eni does not snore with Lukoil in Mexico

All the news on the joint activities of the Russian Lukoil with the Italian Eni in Mexico

Russia's Lukoil has begun exploration work off the coast of Mexico, a country where the oil company has ramped up operations in recent years.

"Lukoil has begun drilling the first exploration well in Block 12 located in the southern Gulf of Mexico," the group said, stating a water depth at the drilling site of 207 meters.

The joint venture formed by Lukoil (60%) and Eni (40%) acquired the license to explore and produce in this area in 2017, 50 km off the coast of the state of Tabasco.

At the beginning of August, Lukoil had already found oil in two locations in the Gulf of Mexico, again with Eni; in July it reached a $ 435 million agreement to cooperate in an area of the Gulf, the first results of which are expected in the third quarter of 2021.

In 2018 – reads the Eni website – "we signed agreements for the exchange of shareholdings with the company Lukoil for the sale of 20% of Eni's stake in the Area 10 licenses and the acquisition of a 40% stake in the 'Area 12 operated by Lukoil. This share exchange was approved by the Comisión Nacional de Hidrocarburos (CNH) in July 2019 ″.

SHEET FROM THE ENI SITE ON ACTIVITIES IN MEXICO:

“We are present in the country with a 100% stake in the license operated by Area 1, where the development activities of the Amoca, Miztón and Tecoalli discoveries are underway . In 2019 we started the "early production" of the Miztón field , the first step in the development of an oil hub with estimated resources of 2.1 billion barrels equivalent in place. The start-up took place in less than two and a half years from the drilling of the first well and less than a year from the approval of the development plan, demonstrating the effectiveness of our fast track model. Furthermore, we operate in Areas 10 (Eni's interest 80%), 14 (Eni's interest 60%) and 7 (Eni's 45%), located in the Sureste basin . Also in 2018 we were assigned licenses for Area 24 with a 65% share and for Area 28 with a 75% share, in both as operators.

The exploration and development activities in the country are regulated by Production Sharing Agreements (PSA) and by a concession contract for the license of Area 24. The plan for the development of the three discoveries of Amoca, Mitzón and Tecoalli has been approved by the Authorities of the country in July 2018. The activity takes place in stages with the start-up of early production in June 2019, through the installation of a platform connected to an existing onshore treatment plant. Initial production was around 8,000 barrels per day, while in 2020 we reached 20,000 barrels per day. Finally, the full field development phase involves the installation of three additional platforms and a floating production, storage and unloading unit (FPSO) .

In February 2020 we made a new oil discovery in the Saasken exploration prospect, in the medium-deep waters of Block 10 , in the Cuenca Salina. Saasken-1 NFW is the sixth positive exploration well drilled by Eni Mexico in the Sureste basin and preliminary estimates indicate that the new discovery may contain between 200 and 300 million oil in place.

In 2020, the development activities of the year concerned the full field development program of the license operated by Area 1 (Eni's interest 100%) already in production. In particular, during the year we completed development drilling activities with an increase in production wells and connection to the Miztón production platform . The further phase of the project concerns the commissioning of the Amoca discovery through the installation of an additional production platform under construction and the reconversion and upgrading of an FPSO that will be completed in 2021 with all the connection and treatment facilities. . The production start-up is expected in 2022. During 2020, the FEED phase was started for the last two production platforms.
