Fca masks: the hot investigation by Striscia la Notizia

Fca masks: the hot investigation by Striscia la Notizia

Gate masks for FCA? What Striscia la Notizia discovered

It is a new mask-gate that could explode after the journalistic investigation of the program “ Striscia la Notizia ”. To end up in the crosshairs of the satirical news this time are the masks distributed in Italian schools and bearing the logo of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers.

FCA: 27 million masks a day for schools

Since last August, the FCA in the Mirafiori plant has been involved in the production of approximately 27 million masks a day for Italian schoolchildren, with machinery supplied by the extraordinary commissioner Domenico Arcuri and raw materials established by the national authorities.

Parental concerns: uncomfortable and smelly masks

Striscia correspondent Moreno Morello has collected the concerns of numerous parents, worried about the safety of the protective devices distributed in their children's schools.

Families complained that the masks smelled bad, similar to that of oil and plastic, emanating from the masks and the poor fit, suffocating and too close to the body. Many parents have thus chosen to renounce, through a special form, the masks provided by the Government and to have their children wear other masks regularly purchased at the pharmacy.

Independent tests: masks failed

The editorial staff of Striscia carried out tests on two samples of the masks provided by the Government to schools. The checks were carried out at BPSEC , a consortium of companies specialized in services for companies that has launched a line of services dedicated to Covid-19 .

The results on the masks sent to the schoolchildren were not at all encouraging: on the first batch the filtration capacity was 67% far from the minimum established of 95% while on the second the filtration capacity was 77%. Even with respect to the breathable parameter, the government masks were rejected, if the law establishes that this must have a value lower than 40 Pa / cm², the measured value is 52.6 Pa / cm².

As explained in the course of the report by Daniele Barbone , General Manager of BPSEC, the checks on the masks must be carried out upstream of production, both during production and must be communicated to the ISS.

Masks not up to standard but validated by the ISS

However, the Higher Institute of Health has included the personal protective equipment sent by the Government in the list of devices validated by the Higher Institute of Health . The Striscia correspondent underlines that the ISS does not carry out tests on the masks but trusts the accompanying documents sent by the manufacturers. On the other hand, the ISS has ensured, with a note sent to the editorial staff, about the quality of the materials used by FCA.

The voices of entrepreneurs: FCA has saturated the market with unsuitable masks

In the last tranche of the Striscia investigation the news is spoken by Luca Nannipieri , an entrepreneur spokesperson for a group of entrepreneurs, financed by Invitalia at 75% non -repayable, to produce surgical masks. The companies in question have undergone a conversion process and in May they started producing and marketing the masks. Since September, the Government has decided to entrust the production of "government" masks to FCA, saturating the market and making it inaccessible to previously financed entrepreneurs.
