Here are the effects of the synergy between Turkey and Qatar in Libya (for Italy)

The synergy between Turkey and Qatar on the one hand will consolidate the expansionist projects of the Muslim Brotherhood and on the other hand will allow Turkey to manage the migratory flows that will be used as an instrument of political pressure towards the EU and, in particular, towards Italy. Giuseppe Gagliano's analysis

A previous article discussed the importance of the August 17 agreement between GNA Deputy Defense Minister Salah Al-Namroush, Turkish Defense Ministers Halusi Akar and Qatari Khalid al Attyha.

However, recent developments make it necessary to clarify the strategic significance of this agreement.

In the first place, this agreement does nothing but consolidate the projection of Turkish and Quatar power on Tripolitania.

Secondly, it contributes to strengthening the Turkish presence in Libya, making it permanent also thanks to the agreement of last February relating to the EEZ for the exploitation of offshore gas fields located in the eastern Mediterranean.

Thirdly, Misrata will certainly become the most important Turkish naval infrastructure located on the southern shores of the Mediterranean which, combined with the al-Watya air infrastructure in Western Tripolitania, will allow Turkey to create an offensive and defensive air-naval system that will allow Turkey not to only to project its power both in the Mediterranean and towards Saharan Africa – in perfect coherence with the Turkish foreign policy put in place since the time of Ataturk – but it will also allow to consolidate the Turkish energy policy in the Mediterranean in an anti-Greek function.

Precisely in order to achieve this ambitious goal, Turkey has put in place a naval force capable of implementing this expansionist policy. Turkish investments related to multi-role frigates, amphibious assault ships and submarines are the indispensable tools through which Turkey intends to give concrete form to its will to become a naval medium power capable of projecting its force on a global scale as emerges clearly from the 2015 Navy Strategy document.

In this regard, it is clear, from a geostrategic point of view, that the energy infrastructures that Ankara intends to put in place on the one hand aim to diversify the energy supply and on the other hand – see the importance of the recent discovery in the Black Sea – have that of achieving real energy autonomy by transforming Turkey into a sort of real energy hub. If this objective were to be achieved, it is clear that Turkey would have the possibility to manage the energy flow from Libya to Italy through the control of the GreenStream pipeline.

It is clear that the synergy between Turkey and Qatar on the one hand will consolidate the ideologically expansionist projects of the Muslim Brotherhood and on the other hand it will allow Turkey above all to manage the migratory flows that will be used as an instrument of political pressure towards the EU and, in particular, towards Italy.
