How America tries to fly Piaggio Aerospace

From the Usa a new order for Piaggio Aerospace's P.180 Avanti Evo. In the meantime, the process for the sale of the company under extraordinary administration from 2018 is in the final stages

A new order for the purchase of a Piaggio Aerospace Avanti Evo is still arriving from the United States.

This time the commitment is signed by the US investment fund Off The Chain Capital, specialized in blockchain and digital assets and based in Orlando, Florida.

Last September, the Ligurian company had in fact sold a newly manufactured P.180 Avanti EVO to the American Mid-South Services.

In the meantime, the process for the sale of the Piaggio Aerospace business complexes is in its final stages.

In the last few days, four non-binding offers have been received for the acquisition of the corporate assets of Piaggio Aero Industries and Piaggio Aviation, the two companies in extraordinary administration that operate under the Piaggio Aerospace brand.

But the unions continue to ask the Minister of Economic Development Giancarlo Giorgetti for an urgent meeting on the Piaggio Aero dispute.

All the details.

THE NEW ORDER FOR THE P.180 AVANTI EVO

The aircraft will be equipped with a VIP configuration with an enlarged door – thus able to facilitate access by means of reduced mobility devices – and capable of accommodating up to six passengers.

Delivery is expected by the first quarter of 2022.

FROM OFF THE CHAIN CAPITAL

“My first flight on a P.180 was about 15 years ago. The spaciousness of the cabin, the speed and the efficiency, then convinced me to buy one ”, commented Brian Estes, managing partner and CIO of Off The Chain Capital:“ I am really happy to have realized this dream ”.

THE THIRD SALE OF A P.180 IN THE UNITED STATES

"In recent months this is the third sale of a P.180 in the United States", said Vincenzo Nicastro, Extraordinary Commissioner of Piaggio Aerospace: "A market that continues to be dynamic and to appreciate an aircraft that, today in its third version, for 30 years it has been one of the symbols of made in Italy excellence in the world ”.

“This new agreement is a further recognition of the value not only of the Avanti Evo, the company's flagship product, but of the entire Piaggio Aerospace”.

THE VALUE OF THE ORDER PORTFOLIO

With this order, the company now has an order book which includes – among other things – the construction of 14 new Avanti Evo and the modernization of the on-board systems of a further 19 P.180 operated by the Italian Armed Forces.

Therefore, the value of the overall order book – including the activity relating to the engine business unit – has risen, estimated at 640 million euros.

THE COMMISSIONED COMPANY FOR SALE

The Ligurian company enriches its order portfolio in the final stages of the sales procedure of the business complexes.

Finished in extraordinary administration in December 2018 due to the decision of the controlling shareholder, the Mubudala fund in Abu Dhabi, Piaggio Aerospace is now for sale.

In February 2020, the extraordinary commissioner Nicastro, appointed by the government, launched the international call for tenders for the sale of the company's business complexes, an invitation to which 19 subjects responded.

FOUR SUBJECTS COMPETING FOR THE ACQUISITION

Four parties responded positively to the invitation to submit non-binding offers for the acquisition of the corporate assets of Piaggio Aero Industries and Piaggio Aviation, the two companies in extraordinary administration that operate under the Piaggio Aerospace brand.

At the moment, Commissioner Nicastro in collaboration with a team of experts is evaluating the proposals, which have reached the table by the deadline of 5 March.

The analysis will then be sent to the Ministry for Economic Development in order to be able to start – once the relative authorizations have been received – the negotiation with whoever has presented the project deemed best.

Negotiations should last a maximum of one month, before arriving at an irrevocable and binding offer.

FIOM: "WORRY ABOUT THE ABSENCE OF ITALIAN COMPANIES"

But the unions are worried about the future of the Villanova D'Albenga company.

"We believe it is not useful that Italian companies do not seem interesting because it is a sector of excellence, a historical company" commented Francesca Re David, general secretary of Fiom CGIL, referring to the fact that the subjects interested in buying the company are all foreigners. “We asked to be sure that these are not financial transactions. In recent years we have seen multinationals without constraints decide what to do, how to relocate, with a logic beyond the interest of Italy and workers. We think investee companies should play a role ”.

FIOM, FIM AND UILM ASK FOR A MEETING WITH MINISTER GIORGETTI

For this reason, in the aftermath of the deadline of 5 March, the general secretariats of Fiom, Fim and Uilm in Genoa and Savona asked for an urgent meeting with the Minister of Economic Development Giancarlo Giorgetti to clarify the choices on the future of Piaggio Aerospace.

NECESSARY TO SECURE THE 160 MILLION RESOURCES ALREADY APPROVED

"The meeting in our opinion – underline the trade unions – is important to secure the 160 million resources already approved in all its processes, having already had the authorization from the Mise, the Defense and the Treasury for the P1HH, a remotely piloted system to be used for surveillance and patrolling actions. Successive governments have pledged to support the completion of its development ”. "For this it is necessary that [Minister Giorgetti] summon us quickly and not behave like his predecessors," concluded the three organizations.

Even after the meeting earlier this week with the regional councilor Benveduti on the Piaggio Aerospace dispute, the social partners continue to ask for an urgent meeting with Mise.
