How Pakistan gets excited with Russia

Giuseppe Gagliano's article on the Pakistan Stream Gas Pipeline, the gas pipeline designed by Russia and Pakistan

Due to the conflict in Afghanistan – in which the United States played a decisive role – Pakistan and in particular its security service supported the Taliban's offensive guerrilla and terrorist actions.

Alongside cooperation with China , Russia and Pakistan have unanimously decided to amend the intergovernmental agreement for the 1,122 km Pakistan Stream Gas Pipeline (PGSP) which will start from Port Qasim, in South-East Pakistan, to reach Kasur, in the north-east of the country. The total cost of the project will be approximately $ 2.25 billion.

The contractual modification implemented will allow Pakistan a 74% shareholding and Russia 26%.

This agreement is the logical consequence of the visit made in December 2019 to Pakistan by the Russian trade industry minister Denis Manturov who had guaranteed investments in the energy sector for a cost of 14 billion dollars.

This cooperation on the energy front between Pakistan and Russia should not cause any surprise: both nations in fact want to counter the terrorist actions implemented by Isis but above all they want the withdrawal of the American presence which has now in fact been achieved.

As far as Pakistan is concerned, there is no doubt that it is moving further and further away from the Western front and ever closer to China and Russia. Precisely for this reason the United States can only focus on strengthening this double cooperation with Pakistan which will only limit and contain their projection of power in Asia.
