How Russia and Serbia get gas with Gazprom (and not only)

Russia and Serbia have begun to re-discuss gas import contracts. The point of Giuseppe Gagliano

According to the Russian news agency Tass , Russia and Serbia began negotiations on 7 October to re-discuss contracts related to gas imports. The one who, as regards the Serbian side, will deal with discussing the contractual conditions will be the head of the Russian-Serbian intergovernmental committee, namely Minister Nenad Popovic.

As for the industries involved, these will naturally be Gazprom and the Serbian Srbijagas on the one hand.

Technically this will happen through the opening of the Balkan Stream gas pipeline.

All this of course will only strengthen bilateral cooperation between Russia and Serbia, as on the other hand shows the fact that investments by the Kremlin so far amount to 4 billion euros, and as evidenced by the fact that most Russian investment relates to the gas sector made through Gazprom Neft towards the Serbian multinational Naftna Industrija Srbije (NIS). In fact, Gazprom Neft bought NIS in 2008 for 400 million euros, with the prospect of investing 500 million euros.

On the Afghanistan front, Russian special envoy Zamir Kabulov communicated through the Russian news agency Ria Novisti that he will invite Taliban delegates to international talks on Afghanistan to be held in Moscow on October 20.

If on the one hand this demonstrates how Russia is able to skillfully exploit the vacuum created by the United States, on the other hand this meeting also arises from an issue linked to Russian national security: there is in fact the concern on the part of the Russian authorities that jihadist terrorist action can reach Central Asia.
