How the US will electrify Greece and Bulgaria

The article by Giuseppe Gagliano

As we had already had occasion to underline in several previous articles, the war in Ukraine can only bring significant advantages to American energy policy in Europe.

Among the European countries that will become more and more closely linked to the United States are certainly Greece and Bulgaria.

Firstly, in May, the US State Department put in place cooperation with Greece in the nuclear sector, also thanks to Bulgaria's role as an intermediary state.

At the same time, the State Department inaugurated a new liquefied natural gas terminal built off Alexandroupoli – where there is already an American military infrastructure that plays a crucial role in anti-Russian containment – thanks to an investment of 360 million euros implemented by the Greece and Bulgaria to which the European Union also contributed.

As for cooperation with Bulgaria, the American company Nuscale and the Bulgarian Bulgarian Energy Holding had already signed an agreement for the construction of a power plant north of Sofia in 2021.
