Listeria: companies, brands and products involved

The products and names of companies and brands of frankfurters responsible for cases of listeria infection

The number of cases of listeria infection, also called listeriosis, seems stable but the withdrawal of the products responsible for the reports continues in Italy and in the countries of the European Union.

According to the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (Rasff) of the European Commission, 66 people are infected and 3 deaths. The notification was inserted by Italy on 2 August after the cases reported by the Lombardy and Emilia-Romagna regions.

However, as can also be seen in the image, an error continues to persist in the card. Initially, in fact, the investigations of the regional health authorities focused on a cheese, but the analyzes gave negative results. Only on 12 September, more than a month later, did the focus shift to another product: sausages. On the card, however, it still says that the product responsible for listeria cases would be cheese.

It was possible to trace the offending product because one of the patients had at home still intact packs of two batches of Eurospin's Töbias frankfurters, which from the analyzes were found to be contaminated by the same strain of listeria of the outbreak.

The clues then led straight to San Martino Buon Albergo, in the province of Verona, to the factory of the producer, the agricultural cooperative Agricola Tre Valli. The inspection, as also stated in the note from the Ministry of Health, confirmed the presence of environmental contamination.

The next step was to proceed with the precautionary withdrawal of some lots (1785417 and 01810919) of sausages marketed by the company under different brands , which in addition to the aforementioned Töbias by Eurospin, are the well-known Wudy Aia, Golo, Wurs, Pavo, Salchichia , AV5 and Salumeo di Lidl.

In the notice issued by Agricola Tre Valli we read that the company "informs that, for precautionary reasons due to a microbiological risk, some batches of sausages produced in the summer with the manufacturer's identification mark IT04MCE have been withdrawn from the shop deadline from 20.09.2022 to 05.12.2022 ". According to Repubblica , 4 million packages have already been withdrawn in Italy.

In particular, these are Aia Wudy Classico Snack, Aia Wudy Cheese and Aia Wudy Classico.

For those in possession of these products, Agricola Tre Valli recommends that you carefully read the storage instructions on the label or return it for a replacement.

For more information, you can contact the company on the toll-free number 800 905232 from Monday to Saturday, from 8.00 to 17.00.
