Medicines made in Italy, here is the reshoring project for the Pnrr

What emerges from a document of the Department for Community Policies on the project "Reshoring of drugs and active pharmaceutical ingredients in Italy". Facts, numbers and indiscretions on the plans presented so far by the member companies of Alisei, Farmindustria, Egualia and Aschimfarma

"The companies have so far presented project forms for investments totaling 1,871 million euros, financed with funds from the companies, which have the production capacity (technologies, plants, expertise) and are ready to carry out the strengthening of production capacity, and a part they will be public investments in the form of public non-repayable loans and other support measures ”.

This is what we read in a document of the Department for Community Policies, which is part of the Prime Minister's Office, prepared as part of the Recovery Plan.

The document contains the first elements of the project for the Reshoring of pharmaceuticals and active pharmaceutical ingredients in Italy by Alisei, Farmindustria, Egualia and Aschimfarma.

The project contributes to the strategic objective – note Palazzo Chigi – "to increase the resilience of the Italian health system and promote the strategic independence of the EU in the health sector: dependence on imports in the pharmaceutical supply chain constitutes a health risk. human and a concern for the autonomy of the European Union under normal circumstances, and becomes potentially more dangerous in crisis situations due to epidemics ”.

In essence – companies in the sector point out – "an industrial development project that aims to enhance the Italian production of pharmaceutical drugs and active pharmaceutical ingredients, thus responding to an objective of health protection, but also of relaunching growth and creating jobs ".

Industrial investments would serve not only to boost production, and therefore create new jobs, but also to innovate production processes, in terms of process optimization and reduction of environmental impact (energy efficiency and emission control), thus contributing to sustainable growth, it is clear from the document in progress of the government department.

The companies involved in the project – according to institutional indiscretions collected by Start Magazine – have so far presented project forms for a total investment of 1,871 million euros between the production of drugs (1,222 million) and the production of active pharmaceutical ingredients (649 million euros).

Leading the maxi-project – underlined the Sole 24 Ore in recent days – “is Alisei , the national Life Sciences technological cluster, at the top of which is Diana Bracco. Together with the cluster there is the supply chain. Farmindustria , with its two hundred companies and a turnover of 34 billion, 85% of which generated by exports. And there is Egualia (generic drugs), with over 50 companies, a turnover that exceeds three billion and exports at 39%. Then Federchimica Aschimfarma (production of active ingredients), which brings together about fifty companies for a turnover of almost 3.5 billion with an export of 90% ".
