Poste also lands on fiber with Open Fiber, Zte and Fritz

Poste Italiane launches a commercial offer for fiber, with Modem Zte and Fritz, based on the Open Fiber network. All the details

Poste Italiane makes its debut in the fiber market, with PosteCasa Ultraveloce. The new solution allows to reach a connection speed of 1 gigabit per second and includes a second connection without limits on the 4G network, with Modem Zte or Fritz!

Conquering the market will not be easy: numerous competitors, to which Sky was added only a few months ago. All the details.

THE OFFER OF MAILS

Let's start with the offer. PosteCasa Ultraveloce offers a connection with a speed of one gigabit per second and a second connection without limits on the 4G network, at the promotional cost of 26.90 euros per month instead of 30.90. The first solution allows, by means of fiber, to surf from home without limits; the second, on the other hand, offers the possibility to surf immediately without limits and access the WiFi connection anywhere thanks to the 4G connection of the PosteMobile SIM and a self-installing USB key connected to the modem. For activation, delivery and installation by a specialized technician, a contribution of € 49 is foreseen, points out Poste.

THE AGREEMENT WITH OPEN FIBER

To bring the internet into the homes of Italians, in recent months Poste has signed an agreement with Open Fiber, a network infrastructure jointly controlled by Cassa Depositi e Prestiti and Enel which in recent weeks approved the sale of its 50% to Cdp Equity (10% ) and to Macquarie Infrastructure & Real Assets. For mobile, on the other hand, Poste has signed a 5-year wholesale contract with Vodafone.

MODEM ZTE OR FRITZ!

Two modems that Poste Italiane includes in the offer: either the one developed by the Chinese Zte, model H2640, a wireless router for connecting to the Internet via fixed network access with FTTH fiber optic connection or VDSL technology, or via mobile network access with 4G / 3G USB stick, or a Fritz! Box7530, with characteristics similar to the first.

THE CONNECTIONS MARKET

Poste's offer comes at a time when fiber connections are growing thanks to the pandemic. In fact, during last year, accesses in FTTC technology (+7.06 million units), FTTH (+1.38 million) and FWA (+0.69 million) technology increased. According to Agcom data, the market leader in broadband and ultra-broadband access is Tim, the largest operator with 42.1%. Followed by Vodafone with 16.4%, Fastweb with 15.2% and Wind Tre with 14.0%. Among the other actors, Linkem, Eolo and Sky, who entered the game in 2020.

THE EXPECTATIONS OF POST

Apart from competitors, the group led by Del Fante is aiming for a growth in lines, fixed and mobile, to 5.1 million at the end of the plan, to then rise to 5.3 million in 2025.

NOT JUST BROADBAND

The launch of the offer is one of the objectives of Poste Italiane's “2024 Sustain & Innovate” strategic plan . The plan also provides for an entry into the “energy market, with a fair, competitive and easy-to-understand offer in 2022”, states the plan. The Group is thinking of a "100% green" gas and electricity offer, aiming to add 0.2 million customers in the year of launch, 1.1 million customers at the end of the plan, in 2024, and 1.5 million customers in 2025.

The company led by Del Fante also aims to "develop the logistics network along the entire value chain, to seize the full growth potential deriving from the parcel market" and to "diversify the customer portfolio through savings, insurance and investment ", with investments in the next 4 years equal to 3.1 billion euros.
