Stellantis focuses on software (but does so in Eastern Europe)

As part of its digitalization strategy, Stellantis has also decided to open a new software hub, in Gliwice, Poland, which will employ approximately 300 employees

The transformation of the automotive world translates into a radical transformation of the main players in the sector, grappling not only with the energy transition, but also with increasingly smart cars, equipped with AI and real on-board computers, to be fed with operating systems , firmware and apps increasingly proprietary. For this, Stellantis has decided to set aside 30 billion euros until 2025 to invest in software and digital services.

THE STELLANTIS SOFTWARE HUB IN POLAND

As part of its digitalization strategy, Stellantis has also decided to open a new software hub, in the Special Economic Zone (ZES) in Gliwice, Poland, created in collaboration with the digital engineering service provider GlobalLogic, a company American, independent subsidiary of Hitachi Ltd, which provides software product design and development services.

It is a region particularly disliked by the Italian blue-collar workers who have certainly not forgotten that at the beginning of 2022 Stellantis started production in the Eastern European plant of the same vans built in the Sevel di Atessa (Chieti), also bringing with it the companies of the 'induced.

Located near the production plant for commercial models such as the Fiat Ducato and Peugeot Boxer, the Group's intention is to take advantage of the region's education and university facilities. When fully operational, the Stellantis software hub will employ up to 300 employees and will cover data analytics, software development and validation, applications, DevOps and automated validation.

THE OTHER 7 HUBS

The hub will be the eighth in the world for Stellantis, which in its strategy has scattered similar structures almost everywhere, to the four corners of the globe, from Pernambuco (Brazil) to Poissy (France), via Russelsheim (Germany), Bengaluru and Hyderabad (India), Turin and Auburn Hills (Michigan).

One of the most modern and important software centers is the one that Stellantis inaugurated last October in India, with 500 employees: it will focus on the development of apps and technological innovations that the company defines as crucial for the progress of automobiles and mobility.

The 4,600-square-meter facility will serve as the primary development center for the STLA SmartCockpit, one of three technology platforms critical to the company's digital transformation strategy, available starting in 2024 on all four STLA vehicle platforms.

Additionally, the Bengaluru center will play a role in the development of AI and ADAS technologies for STLA AutoDrive. Finally, the Bengaluru Base Software Development Team will support the Base software platforms built on the Autosar Classic and Adaptive frameworks.
