Why the Webuild group got fined

Asl Bari applied penalties of 3.5 million euros given the delays in the construction of a hospital in Puglia. All the details

Bad news from Puglia for the Webuild group: the construction giant, heir to the Salini group, will have to pay penalties of just under 3.5 million euros.

Here because.

Statement by the President of the Regional Budget and Planning Commission, Fabiano Amati.

“The Asl Bari has finally decided to take a hard line against the Webuild group's Partecipazioni Italia company, a largely defaulting contractor for the construction works of the new Monopoli-Fasano hospital. In fact, the penalties, amounting to almost 3.5 million euros as at 25 August, reduced by the latest state of progress of the works, were applied”, is the news communicated by the president of the regional budget and planning commission, Fabiano Amati.

The penalties – added the regional councilor – "refer to each day of delay with respect to the end of the work scheduled for 24 July 2023 and not respected by Webuild, as well as a series of contractual violations. For each day of delay and for each breach of contract, the amount of the penalty is Euro 90,688.42.

“Now – concluded the former Pd councilor who recently moved to Carlo Calenda's Action – we hope that the technical advisory board will reject the obviously unfounded, specious, dilatory and emulative requests of the contractor, setting a new date for the end of the works. In the meantime, I ask the managing director of Webuild to put a hand on his conscience, considering that we are dealing with a hospital that we could all need, adapting the management applied to the construction site to the credibility of a large company, also considering that the tormented story of the new Monopoli-Fasano hospital does not suit, fueling discredit, a company about to build even the bridge over the Strait of Messina ".

THE FACTSHEET ON THE PROJECT OF THE NEW HOSPITAL IN PUGLIA TAKEN FROM THE WEBUILD GROUP WEBSITE:

The project involves the execution of all the civil works and systems and will make available 299 beds and 9 operating theaters on a total intervention area of 178,000 square metres. The work will benefit a catchment area made up of 260,000 people.

Designer and artistic director of the work is the Arch. Albert De Pineda (Studio PINEARQ, Barcelona), international signature for the architecture of the Project, in group with the Engineering and Architecture Company STEAM Srl and with the Mauro Sàito Architetto studio.

The new Monopoli-Fasano hospital is also establishing itself as a driving force for economic and employment development with the involvement of over 180 supplier companies.

Once completed, the structure will stand out as an example of green architecture and for the use of alternative energy sources. The structure as a whole is in fact conceived as "a hospital in a park", located in an extra-urban environmental context in which the landscape fits harmoniously, as the building is composed of porous volumes articulated around courtyards and open public spaces, green and paved, with maximum heights comparable to the dimensions of the crowns of the monumental olive trees (12/13 meters) by which it will be surrounded. The valorisation of the dry stone walls is also envisaged, elements that characterize the area in which the work is carried out. The construction of a photovoltaic system with a capacity of 915 kWp and the replanting of 199 secular trees in the project area are also planned.

The Monopoli-Fasano South-East Barese Hospital is the new excellent healthcare facility that the Webuild Group is building in Puglia and which, as soon as it is completed, will guarantee the strengthening and modernization of the hospital supply capacity of the whole region "
