DO YOU REALLY THINK THAT SCHOOLS WILL REOPEN ON SEPTEMBER 14TH?

The government and the Minister of Education Azzolina say that the schools will certainly reopen on September 14, with or without benches on wheels, which, however, will come later. But there is a question that runs into the minds of Italians, especially the parents of students: will the schools really open on 14 September and, above all, will they remain open?

The doubt is anything but not justified: Puglia, Calabria and Sardinia have already decided to postpone the opening, Campania and Abruzzo are strongly tempted. The optional test measure for school staff is not considered sufficient, and perhaps even rightly: in Campania alone, as reported by La Verità, there are about 200 thousand employees of public and private institutions and a 5% positive means 10 thousand people at the risk of creating infections. If even only 20% of these did not take the test, we would have 2,000 people in schools with the possibility of infecting other students.

Given the desire to have maximum security, the absolute one, the results would be those that were seen just the day before yesterday in Verbania : an institute just opened for remedial courses is immediately closed because only one student is positive. Now imagine our schools with 500, 600 students: there is no possibility, but mathematical certainty of closing, if not complete, partial of the same.

The problem is pretty simple:

  • the government has not set up mandatory mass tests for school staff;
  • the government has not prepared serious security protocols other than to send home the student who test positive;
  • no rapid test methods have been adopted that allow for the assessment of all staff and students, at least on a periodic basis.

Now none of this has been done, but, at the same time, an absolute level of security is required: there must not, or should be, contagions. In these conditions it is almost impossible to open schools or, if open, to keep them in this condition. We will witness a continuity of closures of classes, sections, or entire schools. This marks the failure not only of Minister Azzolina, but of the entire government, because it is unfair to unload everything only on the Minister, given that the responsibilities are wide and also go in the direction of the Prime Minister and Civil Protection. Because, instead of focusing on unitile and, frankly stupid, benches with wheels it would have been much more useful to prepare quick school tests. There probably weren't enough "Business" to close.
