Mongolia and its strange relationship with covid-19

In Mongolia, the infectious and pathological behavior of covid-19 was particularly strange.

Mongolia, in 2019, has 3,225,000 inhabitants, very few compared to a territory that is 5 times that of Italy in size. It is therefore a country where there is a natural lockdown given by the dispersion of the inhabitants over the territory. According to 2017 data, most of the inhabitants are concentrated in its capital Ulan Bator which has 1,390,000 people, all the others are strongly distributed throughout the territory.

Since the beginning of this world pandemic, attesting to the departure around January 2020, the positives and deaths in Mongolia, due to covid-19, have not been there. From May 16, 2020 to February 25, 2021, a graphic curve practically zero can be observed and only 2 deaths can be counted.

Here below the graph that highlights the curve of the infected and immediately below the graph that highlights the number of deaths.

The question arises spontaneously. Why did Mongolia have no trace of covid-19 for 9 months and then in February / March the peak of infected people and deaths rose as we see in the graphs? What has changed in Mongolia? What was the event that so abruptly changed its status from a country absolutely not at risk to a country with increased infections and mortality risks?

These questions should be answered because such an epochal event has changed the fate of a country where the covid-19 problem did not exist in a country that, now, is in full covid-19 chaos.

The only real difference that we were able to find, and which is definitely NOT responsible for the so obvious change, is the start of the vaccination that began around February 25, 2021. We can see in the graph below that the vaccination has started on that date and the greenish and green curves highlight the administration of the first and second dose. From 25 February 2021 to 9 September 2021, 69.6% of the population were vaccinated with at least one dose and 65.5% with two doses.

Let's try to superimpose the graphs?

It is also very interesting to observe that the Mongolian premier Khurelsukh Ukhnaa resigned on January 21, 2021. Officially for the fact that a woman was dragged to the hospital in her pajamas arousing general indignation, but it would be interesting to know the real reason for her resignation given that to believe in a prime minister who has resigned for the wrong actions of some nurses seems ridiculous at least, unless one of the nurses was him. Who took his place by giving the green light to the vaccinations that began on February 25, 2021? This is Luvsannamsrain Oyun Erdene.
