What future for the (job)?

This is the question from which, a year ago, the monographic issue of the quarterly Start Magazine was born, which tried to analyze facts, forecasts and possible scenarios in the light of the Covid-19 pandemic. Among the greatest legacies of the emergency there was a greater use – by necessity, or by will – to work remotely.

However, it immediately became clear that the so-called smartworking was a much broader concept than the meaning we knew in quarantine: a transformation that requires much more than a desk and a computer that are placed in the living room or bedroom. an internet connection signed in 24 hours and a meeting that takes place behind the peephole of a webcam. Likewise, the impossibility of exhausting in a few pages the analysis of an evolution that, normally, would have taken decades, has become evident. For this reason, the Institute of the Culture of Innovation, in collaboration with Start Magazine and Innovative Publishing, has promoted the Hybrid Workplace Alliance: a permanent work table, dedicated to the transformation of the (workplace), which saw the participation of partners such as Sogei, Deda.cloud, Edenred and Olivetti, and the contribution of experts such as Luca Pesenti, Giovanni Scansani and Elena Granata.

The path taken together this year included meetings, exchanges, closed-door seminars and public events; the stakeholders shared their respective experiences, sharing problems and solutions, comparing themselves with the coordinates of the scenario and with the national and international innovations that gradually emerged in terms of technology, but also of space design; organizational experiments, without neglecting the possible impact on the context; on the organizational side, as well as on the regulatory side.

The first fruit of this year of work is now collected in the Position Paper just published, which analyzes the "hybrid" work in its many facets – well beyond the office-home alternation -, outlines scenarios and proposes concrete solutions to manage this colossal transformation . An attempt to tackle the subject, without pretending to exhaust it, but with the aspiration of having contributed to directing the debate towards a dimension of centrality of man and his role in the world of work.
