Electric mobility, what Enel X Way and the Volkswagen group are doing

Electric mobility, what Enel X Way and the Volkswagen group are doing

The joint venture aims to create a high-power charging (HPC) network with 3,000 public charging points throughout Italy. Enel and Volkswagen will each invest 100 million euros. Estimates say that one million electric cars could circulate in our country by 2026 and 4 million by 2030

The new joint venture on electric mobility " Ewiva ", the result of the collaboration between Enel X Way and the Volkswagen group, is starting from Rome, on the Via Flaminia. The newly inaugurated charging point is just one of the 233 sites (for a total of 750) that the new startup is opening throughout Italy, with the goal of reaching 250 within the next three weeks and then reaching 800 by 2025, with 3,000 tricks overall.

PLAYERS MOVE

Moreover, among the points of the PNRR there is also the country's commitment to strengthen the essential infrastructure for the mobility of tomorrow, and given that we are currently behind, the ground is a virgin prairie for the giants of the sector. Currently, in fact, according to data released by the Motus-E association, the Italian recharging network can count on 32,000 high-power points only to a small extent and with still insufficient diffusion on the motorways (+250% this year but only 310 points, of which 234 are high power) and in the South.

THE JV BETWEEN ENEL AND VOLKSWAGEN

Contrary to what one might think due to the presence of the German manufacturer, the new Ewiva points can be used by all electric and plug-in vehicles (therefore not only from the Volkswagen group). At the moment, the joint venture is working both on credit card payment methods without the need for an app and registration, and on a smart plug and charge system, i.e. capable of recognizing vehicle and customer by simply connecting the car to the station .

The new network consists of ultra-fast columns with HPC stations from 150 to 350 kW, with the exception of some 100 kW "stand-alone" connectors reserved for small spaces such as historic centres. The stations are divided into "basic", "convenience" and "premium": the one in Rome, belonging to the latter category, is equipped with 14 recharging points divided into seven 300 kW columns, sufficient power to carry the charge of the vehicle from 20 to 80% in just 20 minutes, provided of course that the model being charged supports the mode.
