Jubilee 2025, here is the Dpcm

Jubilee 2025, here is the Dpcm

What was said (and who said it) at the presentation of the works that the government and municipality of Rome will have to do in two years

2025 is tomorrow, or almost. A horizon two years away, politically very distant. But in terms of events, of things to do, it's already here. This morning at Palazzo Chigi, the mayor of Rome Roberto Gualtieri (Pd) and the undersecretary to the presidency of the Council Alfredo Mantovano presented the program of the main "essential and indifferent" interventions (as defined on the web portal of the Municipality of Rome) for the Jubilee 2025.

In detail, the Dpcm was presented with one billion on the plate for 87 works. “In total it will be 2.3 billion and it will be close to 4 billion with the second dpcm and the complementary interventions”, specified the mayor of Rome. Which hinted at the almost total coverage of the urban territory, involving around 430 kilometres.

THE PRESENTATION AT PALAZZO CHIGI

As Ansa details, "first of all, the mayor explained to the Pope the dpcm for the release and implementation of the works of the Jubilee".

Furthermore, adds the agency, "according to what has been learned, they spoke of peace, social policies, environmental challenges, decarbonization, the economy, and Gualtieri then told the Pope about the summit of world mayors in Buenos Aires, which took place in recent months. The Pope would have defined the capital as a unique and wonderful city and expressed hope and encouragement for Rome".

Of the 87 interventions, 32 are for redevelopment and enhancement, another 23 concern accessibility and mobility, 8 welcome and participation, 24 the environment and the territory. For – as specified in the communiqué of the Municipality – jubilee funds of a billion and 1.8 billion in total, plus another half billion relating to the 335 works already defined within the Pnrr. It is the Caput Mundi plan. Objective: "to better welcome the tens of millions of pilgrims who will come to Rome and, at the same time, make the city more accessible, sustainable and inclusive, in line with the message of hope, universal fraternity and trust that Pope Francis wanted to center of the Jubilee”, specifies the Capitoline Municipality.

Furthermore, 62 works are included in the use of the Jubilee funds and ten use already existing resources, another fifteen interventions with money already allocated and "entered to speed up the works thanks to the commissioner procedures".

GUALTIERI'S WORDS AT THE PRESENTATION

The promise, in fact, of the first citizen of the capital is to intervene at full capacity on the entire urban perimeter in view of the great event of 2025.

“It is not an event like all the others, because it confirms the centrality of Rome. Millions of people from the world will come, the economic operators of the capital will breathe after the years of the covid and the war crisis. It will be an opportunity – added Gualtieri – to create important works for the city. But that's not what matters most, I hope it doesn't seem out of place for a representative of a secular institution to emphasize that the jubilee is above all an event of faith, which is linked to centuries-old traditions, the pilgrimage".

Undersecretary Mantovano of the Dpcm on the Jubilee 2025 echoed him: "We are all aware that Europe was also born around the pilgrim routes, the routes still exist, such as the Francigena: protected paths, because they called for peace, as well as faith. There is a lot of work to do, a second dpcm dedicated to essential works will follow and work on the second dpcm will already start from today's afternoon ".

Mantovano again: “There is a lot of work to do, but I'm quite confident, with all that is being said, the controversy. Rome and Italy in the end reserve pleasant surprises. On the occasion of the funeral of the Pope emeritus, despite some downward forecasts, everything took place in order, so as not to have created inconvenience and with widespread appreciation even beyond national borders. I trust that Rome will return as it already is, at the center of the world's attention and will do it in the best possible way”.

THE WORDS OF THE PREMIER

Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni also released a message on the presentation : "This government has worked since it took office for the signing of the first Dpcm on essential and non-deferable works for the organization of the Jubilee of the Catholic Church of 2025. Rome and the whole of Italy they are preparing to celebrate an event inextricably linked to the very identity of the Eternal City, which is the capital of Christianity and hosts the Vatican City State,” he said.

"There is a lot of work to do but, in close synergy with the Holy See and Rome, we will ensure all our collaboration and our commitment to ensure that the capital and the nation are ready to host millions of pilgrims from all over the world and experience an historic event such as the Jubilee”.
