Stla Medium: what it is, how it works, what it is for and where the Stellantis platform will be installed

Stellantis presents the first architecture specifically designed for the electric car: Stla Medium. It will be installed in various plants, including in Europe, including Italy

Among the most important announcements that Stellantis has made in the last period there is certainly that relating to Stla Medium, i.e. the first architecture of the Group developed natively for electric cars (the others were created to support classic engines and were limited to the changes necessary to accommodate the new propulsion).

WHICH SEGMENTS IT COVERS

Stla Medium right from the name suggests that it will be the platform for cars in the C and D segments: medium-large sized cars, which represent the heart of the world car market (35 million units out of 78.5 million sold in 2022 worldwide world). Stellantis alone has 26 models in the two market segments. In short, the establishments that will ensure the construction will also guarantee themselves years of productivity.

THE TWO VERSIONS OF STLA MEDIUM

Stla Medium will be produced in two variants: Standard, capable of offering over 500 kilometers of autonomy on the Wltp cycle, and the Performance, to exceed 700. The battery capacity will reach up to 98 kWh net. According to data released by Stellantis, consumption will be "less than 14 kWh/100 km" in the most virtuous uses.

With an electrical system with a voltage of 400 volts, the Stla Medium will allow rapid recharges in direct current with times in line with the most modern proposals: from 20 to 80% in 27 minutes (for a speed of 2.4 kWh per minute), always according to official data.

CAR CHARACTERISTICS

The types of bodywork that can be implanted on this skeleton are quite varied and will include sedans, crossovers and SUVs, with: a wheelbase that varies between 2,700 and 2,900 millimetres, an overall length of 4.3-4.9 metres, a height of ground that can exceed 220 mm to ensure off-road capability and performance and rims with a diameter of up to 750 mm.

THE STLA MEDIUM IN MELFI

In the Melfi Lucan lines Stellantis intends to produce five models based on the Stla Medium. According to rumors, the Italian plant should churn out the future Lancia Gamma, two DS proposals and a new Opel, plus a model still shrouded in mystery.
