Tim, what will Telecom Sparkle do in Greece (and not only in Greece)

Sparkle today unveiled the Metamorfosis II data center in Greece, one of the largest and most advanced in Europe. The number of centers managed by the company in the country has risen to four. Here are numbers and details

Sparkle, a telecommunications company of the Tim group active in the submarine cable sector, today announced the launch of Metamorfosis II in Greece, described as the first green data processing center in the country, as well as among the largest and most advanced in Europe. It is located in Athens, in the Metamorfosis industrial area and next to another Sparkle data center, called Metamorfosis I.

THE FIRST "GREEN" DATA CENTER

The adjective green , "green", is due to the fact that Metamorfosis II was designed in such a way as to minimize its environmental impact: the structure is in fact equipped with the most efficient power supply and cooling systems on the market, so as to reduce consumption energetic. The “sustainable” design of the center allows a reduction in carbon dioxide emissions of about 28 thousand tons per year.

The buildings of the center are equipped with LED lighting, lithium-ion batteries and evaporative free cooling units . Metamorfosis II received the gold degree in the LEED certification system for green building.

THE CHARACTERISTICS OF METAMORFOSIS II

In addition to high levels of energy efficiency, the data center was built in compliance with anti-seismic criteria and has a modular structure, which favors the expansion of the structures present in the industrial area of Metamorfosis II. The center, the statement reads, offers 5,831 square meters of space and has an energy capacity of 7.7 megawatts.

WHAT SPARKLE DOES IN GREECE

Including Metamorfosis II, Sparkle manages four data processing centers in Greece: three are in Athens and one in Crete, for a total space of 14 thousand square meters and 13.7 MW of power.

The Athens centers are connected to each other by a proprietary fiber optic network that crosses the industrial district of the capital, reaching corporate and institutional clients.

INTERCONNECTION TO THE NIBBLE NETWORK …

All Greek data centers are interconnected to the Nibble network, Sparkle's optical network between the Mediterranean Sea and Europe which connects the company's two main submarine cable landing stations in Sicily (Palermo and Catania) with Milan, Marseille, Frankfurt. and Paris to the west; and with Athens, Istanbul and Tel Aviv to the east. Since last July, the Nibble network has been extended to northern Europe, also reaching London, Amsterdam and Brussels. The network is 12,800 kilometers long.

In 2022 the Nibble network will be integrated with the submarine Internet cable BlueMed , which points to the Middle East.

… AND TO THE SEABONE DORSAL

The Greek centers are also interconnected with Sparkle's Seabone global IP backbone, which guarantees high-speed international connections and access to leading cloud service providers.

Sparkle's data centers are sustainable, secure, and state-of-the-art infrastructures designed to house customers' IT systems and provide fast and reliable connectivity globally.

THE SPARKLE NETWORK IN GREECE

Sparkle's network in Greece, called “Aegean Network”, consists of three landing points (Agia Marina, Chania and Vravrona) and two stations (Chania and Koropi).
